DONT PLAY IN PAIN - Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Do not play sport when in PAIN. Pain does not mean there is serious injury. There are many parts to the body that are put under enormous stress during sport.

In Basketball the knees and hips are under continual stress. Players have to jump, spin, accelerate, stop on a sixpence and be able to keep this up for 4 quarters...

Have your  body treated on a regular basis, even if you are not in pain...

REMEMBER, YOUR TEAM DEPENDS ON YOU!!!

Personal Health

As health and lifestyle consultants, we believe that everyone has the right and the potential to be healthy and happy. Given the chance, our minds and bodies have extraordinary powers to balance and heal.

Happy, healthy people are more efficient, energised and enthusiastic. These qualities lead to:

  • A sense of well-being and contentment
  • Enhanced relationships - in all aspects of our lives e.g. partnerships, business, sport

One of the biggest obstacles in making lifestyle changes or health improvements is determining where to start and how to begin. Sometimes finding a solution can seem so daunting that it may seem easier to just give up and live with “it”.

The case studies at the end of this section may inspire you to begin your journey to wellness and happiness.

What We Offer

We have brought together a number of complementary health practices to bring the whole body – including physical, mental and emotional – back to balance and wellness. If one aspect is out of balance, then all others are affected.
We use principles from:

  • OSTEOPATHY
  • CHINESE ACUPUNCTURE
  • MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
  • YOGA
  • VOICE DIALOGUE (exploration of the subconscious mind)

These services can be provided as stand alone, or combined in a program to suit your individual needs.

Osteopathy, Myofascial Release & Chinese Acupuncture

These disciplines complement each other in restoring the body and mind to health.

OSTEOPATHY works with the musculoskeletal system. Tight muscles put pressure on the skeletal system, moving bones out of alignment and putting pressure on joints. One tight muscle can cause a whole array of muscles to either tighten or weaken. Tight muscles affect the nervous system, which in turn can affect mood and mental clarity as well as cause referred pain. Osteopathy works to release muscle tightness.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE techniques allow the body’s connective tissue to perform its task, which is to support the body without hindrance. Myofascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, like a strong plastic bag keeping the muscles contained and in the correct position.
When the myofascia is restricted, our circulation, nerve supply, lymphatics/immune system, and general well being are compromised.

By releasing this myofascia, we unlock the body.

ACUPUNCTURE is used to correct the flow of energy (chi) in the body to restore health. Acupuncture literally means “needle piercing”, the practice of inserting very fine needles into the skin to stimulate specific anatomical points in the body where the energetic vibration is irregular, impeded or blocked.
By applying practices from these 3 disciplines, positive results to ill-health are achieved more quickly, bringing relief and balance to the body on both physical and energetic levels.

Yoga

Yoga is an ancient Indian practice which is becoming increasingly popular in the West as a means of dealing with today’s stresses, and restoring the body/mind to health.

Yoga aims to balance the body and mind through:

  • stretches and poses
  • breathing practices
  • relaxation
  • meditation

Physical benefits include:

  • strengthening and toning muscles
  • increasing flexibility
  • aligning the spine and releasing joints
  • improving posture

Mental and emotional benefits include:

  • calming the nervous system
  • balancing the immune and glandular systems
  • alleviating stress and tension
  • creating a general “feel good” feeling
  • bringing mental clarity

We design individual yoga programs to assist you in achieving your personal health goals.

Voice Dialogue

Voice Dialogue is a process that enables you to discover who you really are and why you behave the way you do.

Voice dialogue is a powerful and effective way to increase individual power through exploring the subconscious mind. In this process you discover hidden aspects of your personality. This enables you to break traditional habits and use your creative potential, parts of you that you never knew existed.

Voice Dialogue gives you choice of how you want to be in the world, and gives you an understanding of what makes other people act the way they do. With this knowledge your relationships improve as does your potential for personal growth, success and happiness.

Voice Dialogue was developed by two American psychologists, Drs Hal and Sidra Stone. Their work is based on the premise that our personality is made up of a number of primary selves or sub-personalities which determine how we live in the world. The Voice Dialogue process enables us to discover our primary selves by talking to them.

Benefits of Voice Dialogue

  • We discover why we do things the way we do e.g. why we worry about our appearance or why we eat too much or  work so hard, instead of just saying “well that’s the way I am”
  • We learn to separate from different parts of our personality so that we’re not locked into habitual thought patterns and practices
  • We become empowered with a sense of freedom, balance and lightness. Worries don’t seem as worrisome; things that create anger can become petty and humorous; relationships improve and life becomes more enjoyable
  • We discover what is truly important to us in life which enables us to make better decisions

Case Studies

"I had been suffering from constant headaches for 2 years. I had been told to relax, take some painkillers and the headaches should respond soon.

My professional and social life was suffering due to the pain. All tests revealed that there was nothing wrong. After 3 sessions of Osteopathy and Acupuncture, plus some myofascial release, the headaches went from a 9 on the pain scale to a 3. After 2 more sessions they are completely gone.

The treatments plus some advice on posture at work and some yoga sessions, have enabled me to lead a normal life."
